Erectile dysfunction: Harbinger of heart disease?

Charanjit S. Rihal, M.D., division chair, and Stephen L. Kopecky, M.D., Cardiovascular Diseases at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, discuss erectile dysfunction and its impact on cardiovascular prognosis and diagnosis. Dr. Kopecky, who is currently president of the American Society for Preventive Cardiology, notes that the risk of coronary disease is 40 to 50 times higher for a 40-year-old man with erectile dysfunction.
