Sleep testing: Actigraphy vs. sleep logs

R. Robert Auger, M.D., with the Center for Sleep Medicine at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, discusses the results of a study, Total sleep time obtained from actigraphy versus sleep logs in an academic sleep center and impact on further sleep testing, published in Nature of Science and Sleep in 2013. The study compares the data obtained from actigraphy versus information from sleep logs or diaries completed by patients. Dr. Auger says that sleep logs tend to be less reliable and patients tend to overestimate sleep time.
